Station House Museum

A peaceful hidden square to the east of Clifden town center marks the site of the town’s former railway station. Here the Station House Museum (connemara.net/the-station-house-museum; adult/child €3/2), located in a redbrick former train shed, offers the chance to learn about pivotal aspects of Clifden’s history including the Connemara Railway (in service from 1895 to 1935), Guglielmo Marconi’s transatlantic wireless station at Derrigimlagh, and the transatlantic flight of Alcock and Brown in 1919. There’s also a wealth of information on Connemara ponies.
