Located 18 miles northwest of Ruidoso on the slopes of Sierra Blanca Peak, Ski Apache really is owned by the Apache. Potentially it’s the finest ski area south of Albuquerque, a good choice for affordability and fun. Snowfall down here can be sporadic, though – check conditions ahead. In summer, ride the gondola (adult/child $35/25), hike, mountain bike and zipline (from $95).
