Skagen Kystmuseet

Chris Cole/Alamy

Town and Regional Open Air Museum (Skagen Kystmuseet) at Skagen, Denmark.

To discover the region’s fishing history, check out the Skagen Kystmuseet (kystmuseet.dk; adult/child 110kr/free), a kid-friendly open-air museum decked out with period dioramas, boats and fishing huts. One exhibition hall displays dozens of name plates recovered from ships wrecked in the perilous Skagen waters, along with accounts of the brave locals who attempted rescues. You can find the museum 200m southwest of the harbor. Admission includes several other nearby coastal museums, at Sæby and Bangsbo.
