Seljalandsfoss

Daniel Dorsa for Lonely Planet

People in multi-colored jackets along a walkway with grass in the foreground and a high waterfall in the distance on a mostly sunny day.

Iceland has thousands of waterfalls, but some of the most popular and impressive are located on the Ring Road drive from Hvolsvöllur to Vík. You’ll see one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls, the glistening 60m-high Seljalandsfoss (parking 1000kr), thundering off the lower escarpments of Eyjafjallajökull (ay-ya-fiat-la-yo-gootl) volcano from miles away. A misty, slippery path runs around the back of the waterfall; wear sturdy boots and waterproof clothing. There's also a cafe and small shop selling souvenirs.
