Sign up for a tour of Radio City Music Hall to get an inside scoop on the famous performance complex. Guided tours (60 minutes) of the sumptuous interiors include the glorious auditorium, and the VIP Roxy Suite, where luminaries such as Elton John and Alfred Hitchcock have been entertained. The grand foyer, described as "visual jazz," will have you wowing over its art-deco magnificence and massive mural, Fountain of Youth. The stage is the size of an entire city block, the curtain weighs 4000 pounds and the stage's hydraulic system can lift over 80 tons – so the time six adult elephants were raised from the basement was no big deal.

The tour highlight is probably the brief talk by a working member of the Rockettes. She pops out of a dressing room fully costumed to talk about the troupe's demanding rehearsal and performance schedule. Fans of glitz and kitsch will thrill to see the precision dancers in the annual Christmas Spectacular, still kicking since 1933.

For concerts, it's a sumptuous setting, but the size of the place (and the comfy seats) can make for a sedate night. That said, arena-fillers like Dolly Parton play here in relative intimacy.
