Preston Farm & Winery

Behind a white picket fence, Lou Preston planted the seeds of revolution at a 19th-century farmstead (prestonvineyards.com). A pioneer in organics and biodynamic wines, Preston grows heirloom produce and raises livestock to support an integrated ecosystem – sheep handle weeding, and artichokes and radishes help with pest control. The farm store sells produce, olive oil and estate-grown-wheat bread, while the bar pours citrusy sauvignon blanc, satiny viognier, spicy zinfandel, and food-friendly barbera (bottles $22 to $46). Picnic under century-old walnut trees – joining a revolution has never been so relaxing.
