After seven years of renovations and extensions, Melbourne University's Potter Museum of Art (potter-museum.unimelb.edu.au; admission free) recently reopened and instantly reclaimed its esteemed place in the city's cultural life. The curators have at their disposal the largest university art collection in the country – over 18,000 works, running the gamut from Ancient Greek vases to videos. Many of the biggest names in Australian art are represented, including a broad range of Aboriginal artists.
The gallery is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Check the website to see if there are any panel discussions, public talks or film screenings on when you're in town.
