The main square of the old town, Plaza Nueva is lined with pintxos bars tucked inside the arch-lined colonnades. The neoclassical square opened in 1851 following a half century of construction, and is still a key gathering spot during festivals and concerts. On Sundays, a modest market of used books, coins and a few antiques lines the perimeter.
