The oldest and smallest college, charming Peterhouse was founded in 1284. The beautifully restored main hall is bona-fide 13th century, but the rest of the cloistered compound was added later, including the elegant chequerboard-floored chapel built in 1632. Contact the college for current hours and entry fees.
Rumours abound among students – vigorously denied by college authorities – of hauntings and spectral happenings on the site. The college is famous for science and five Nobel Prize winners are ex-fellows or students.
