Nepenthe comes from a Greek word meaning "isle of no sorrow," and indeed it’s hard to feel blue while sitting by the fire pit on this aerial terrace. Just-OK California cuisine (try the renowned Ambrosia burger) takes a back seat to the views and Nepenthe’s history – Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth briefly owned a cabin here in the 1940s. Downstairs, casual Café Kevah serves coffee, baked goods, light brunches and the same head-spinning ocean views on its deck (closed during winter and bad weather).
