The southernmost of the two magnificent peaks dominating the island, Mt Gower (875m) is a spectacular sight. Though it looks sheer at first glance, it's actually a relatively straightforward climb. You must go with a guide – Island Tours and Environmental Tours both offer this – but you won't need any special skills, just moderate fitness. Climbs must be booked in advance. The trip takes eight to 10 hours' return.
