Morgan Library & Museum

Bibliophiles especially will appreciate this sumptuous cultural center, built around steel magnate JP Morgan's mansion. The star attraction is Morgan's vaulted, three-story-high library, with a 16th-century Dutch tapestry, a zodiac-theme ceiling and no fewer than three Gutenberg Bibles. To make the steep entry price worthwhile, check to see if the other rotating exhibits (in new modern wings of the building) are of interest – but along with the Frick Collection, this is one of the city's less-visited gems.
