The Umling La pass close to Hanle took over the title in 2017 and held it until 2025, when it was surpassed by Mig La, now the undisputed king. Barely 64km from Hanle, Mig La may have been opened as the now highest road in the world, but it is still not fully paved like its predecessor, and Umling La remains the more popular driving choice, located around 72 km from Hanle.
