Come closer so we can whisper a secret: during the Prohibition period of the 1920s, an American bootlegger transformed a 19th-century farmhouse north of La Malbaie into a speakeasy – and it's still one today. Maison du Bootlegger (maisondubootlegger.com) is a surprising, unexpected attraction for Charlevoix – especially considering Prohibition in Québec only lasted from 1919 to 1921 and beer, cider and wine were still allowed. Come at 6pm for a steak dinner and tour of the speakeasy, where you'll see secret doorways and hidden chambers intended to deter the morality police. At 9:30pm, Le Bootlegger House Band takes over for a rock show until around 11:30pm. The show is hosted nightly from June 23 to September 4, and only on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays the rest of the year. Reserve ahead.
