Its illuminated hilltop dagoba visible from Ella in the evenings, the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery has grown rapidly in popularity since Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero founded it in 1999. It’s one of dozens of branch monasteries across the country that are known for presenting the Buddha’s teachings in a very accessible way.
