Ajrak block printing in Gujarat.

Fifteen kilometers east of Bhuj, this superb museum in Ajrakhpur (shrujanlldc.org; ₹100), run by the Shrujan Trust, is a must for anyone interested in the crafts practiced by Kachchh artisans.

The well-designed and laid-out galleries showcase the many known embroidery styles of the communities in Kachchh, including those of the Ahir, Mochi, Maru/Meghwal and Rabari peoples, among many others. Spread across three galleries, the museum showcases the history of each community's embroidery, the different techniques, and Shrujan's work with "modernizing" the designs. There are also exhibitions on block printing, and multimedia features let you learn about individual exhibits in greater depth.

They have a library, a small crafts studio doing mini-workshops (on request) and an excellent gift shop. Their in-house restaurant serves delicious vegetarian food (book a meal in advance).
