Southeast of Bodmin, Lanhydrock offers a fascinating insight into life in Victorian England. The house was rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1881 as a home for the Agar-Robartes family, who made their fortune from mining. No expense was spared in the rebuilding, as the house was equipped with all mod cons, including radiators and flushing loos. The ornate Long Gallery, famous for its plaster ceiling, somehow survived the fire. Surrounding the manor, 360 hectares of parkland offer a wealth of walks.
