The Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art's postmodern Chibajo Annexe was built in 1992 by Spanish architects Elias Torres and José Antonio Martínez-Lapeña as part of the Artpolis urban-reconstruction project, and is recognized by architects worldwide.
