Kāwhia Museum & Information Centre

Kāwhia's modest waterside museum has local history, nautical and Māori art and artifacts, as well as regular art exhibitions. Don't miss the huge fossil of an ammonite shell, once thought to have housed a giant squid. The museum doubles as the visitor information center, and the friendly volunteers staffing it are always up for a good chat.
