Kaʻu Desert Trail

This 12.1-mile trek from Mauna Iki to Hilina Pali Overlook crosses plenty of twisted lava and soft sand before traversing the grassy scrub high above the coastal plain. Overnight at Pepeiao Cabin or descend to Kaʻaha Shelter on the coast. Both have water catchments (treat before drinking).
