Kalighat Temple is among the holiest in Kolkata. Although non-Hindus are allowed inside, visiting comes with the usual hoops to jump through, such as being asked for "donations" and finding a place to safely stash your shoes (the stalls left of the entrance will let you store them in exchange for buying a ₹20 garland of hibiscus flowers to offer inside). Once inside you’ll have to join the serpentine queue and wait, along with the devout.
East of the temple is a pea-green "holy pond," and by the sanctuary's north perimeter, a "tree of fertility."
