A slab of rock marks the spot where the woods open up to a fine river vista. Known as Jefferson Rock, the formation is named for President Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson stopped here in 1783 and had this to say about the view: "The passage of the Patowmac through the Blue Ridge is perhaps one of the most stupendous scenes in Nature." It is pretty darn sweet.
