Built in the 17th and 18th centuries, this classic example of Portuguese baroque just west of the Catedral da Sé is one of the best-preserved colonial structures in the city. Next door is the 18th-century Igreja das Chagas do Seráfico Pai São Francisco; pop in to see its impressive gilded altar.
