Greystone Mansion & Gardens

Featured in countless movies and TV shows (The Big Lebowski, There Will Be Blood), this 1927 Tudor Revival mansion was designed by Hoover Dam architect Gordon Bernie Kaufmann. It was a gift from oil tycoon Edward L Doheny to his son Ned and his family. In 1929 the oil heir and his male secretary were both found dead in an alleged murder-suicide – a mystery that has been debated endlessly ever since.

While the elegant grounds – which offer commanding views of LA – are open daily, the lavish interior is only open sporadically.
