Gil is a true character, a lithe teller of tales and one of the area's top naturalists. Born and raised nearby, Gil's tours are part history, part ecology and part family lore, related with infectious enthusiasm and near-perfect English. Visits to Lago Maicá, a gorgeous floodplain teeming with birds and other wildlife, are especially memorable. Pricier than others, but worth it.
From the bus drop-off, walk down to the plaza and bear right along the waterfront. It's the house at the end, painted with travel-related logos. Gil can often offer discount lodging, airport pickup and other help; enquire in advance.
