Consisting of several, disparate geographic 'units' totaling 27,000 National Park Service–run acres, Gateway is possibly most well known for its Sandy Hook and New Jersey beaches, and Jamaica Bay's wetlands for birdwatching. Lesser visited spots include Floyd Bennett Field near Rockaway, Queens, and Canarsie Pier in Brooklyn.
