Meet at the Fjallsárlón visitor center for 45-minute Zodiac boat trips among lagoon icebergs. You can book online; tours leave hourly 9.30am to 4.30pm in summer, and less frequently in the shoulder seasons.
Fjallsárlón (around 3 sq km) is neither as large nor as dramatic as Jökulsárlón (25 sq km), but it is less crowded, which has its own appeal. The walking trail from the car park to the boat's departure point at the lagoon shore is more intrepid, and there is also an intimacy to a tour on this lagoon – you don't have to travel as far to reach the glacier snout, for example.
