Dartmouth Castle

From its vantage point at the estuary’s entrance, this imposing limestone fort has been watching over Dartmouth for more than 600 years. The oldest parts date from 1388, built during the Hundred Years' War to protect from potential French invasion. Don’t miss the booming sound-and-light show inside the Victorian point battery, or the estuary views from the top of the gun tower – built in the 1490s, it's one of the oldest gun forts in England.
