Culion Museum & Archives

This museum features a half-hour film and several large rooms filled with photos and artifacts that tell the poignant and little-known story of Culion's leper colony, established in 1906. It's located on the hospital grounds, inside the former colony laboratory building, constructed in 1930 and used as a leprosy research center. The museum opened in 1997, and in 2018, its records were added to UNESCO's Memory of the World Register for Asia and the Pacific. Its collection includes the special currency once used within the colony, medical and lab records, and photos, letters and more that detail the difficult lives of the patients on the island.
