From Ardgay, a single-track road leads 10 miles up Strathcarron to Croick, the scene of notorious evictions during the Clearances of 1845. You can still see the evocative messages scratched by refugee crofters from nearby Glencalvie on the eastern windows of early-19th-century Croick Church.
