Known in Japanese as Sakura Matsuri, this tradition celebrates the pink, puffy flowering of myriad varieties of cherry tree in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, in particular the many-petaled Kwanzan, along its famous esplanade. Entry to a full day's program of entertainment, against a photogenic canopy provided by cherry, apricot and almond blooms, costs $30 (under-12s can accompany adults for free).
It's worth booking in advance. If you can't make the festival, check the map on the website for the most florescent times and places anytime from late March through mid-May.
