Casa Loma

Looming over the northern Annex from atop the Davenport Escarpment, Casa Loma (casaloma.ca; adult/child $40/25) is Toronto's only castle, though it was designed as a luxurious, 98-room Edwardian mansion inspired by medieval British architecture. Fantastic city views emerge as you head up via the Baldwin Steps from Spadina Rd. The mansion was built from 1911–14 for wealthy businessman Sir Henry Pellatt, who brought electricity to Toronto (before losing his fortune in land speculation). Highlights include the chandelier-lit library; the lush Italian-style conservatory; the Great Hall with its Gothic Revival style and 17th-century fireplace; and climbing the Norman Tower to an open rooftop overlooking Toronto's sprawl.
