Cape Spear National Historic Site

In a stunning windswept setting, this site includes an interpretive center, a refurbished 1835 lighthouse and the heavy gun batteries and magazines built in 1941 to protect the harbor during WWII. The remains of the concrete bunkers are particularly atmospheric, and under the right light, pretty darn spooky. Hikers can join up with the East Coast Trail here.
