Jutting out boldly into the Atlantic, Cabo San Pablo is a tall mountain capped with an old lighthouse and famous for the shipwrecks on its shores. Lingering and exploring will reveal a small but lively community and both natural and human-made marvels to discover in this remote cove around 75 minutes' drive from Tolhuin.
Desdémona
The most famous landmark in Cabo San Pablo is the German-built, Argentine-flagged and shipwrecked Desdémona. In 1985, the cargo ship was transporting 20,000 bags of cement when a combination of mechanical malfunction, bad weather and human error forced its captain to strand the ship on the shore. Since then, the abandoned ship has become an icon of Tierra del Fuego, and an imposing presence on its coastline.
Camping Miguel Y Silvia
A small cluster of fisherfolk have called Cabo San Pablo home for decades, and Miguel and Silvia are a couple who’ve lived in the area for years. They established Camping Miguel y Silvia, which serves food made with fresh-caught ingredients. The area is very popular with locals.
Cabo Ladrillero & Faro San Pablo
Just before the Desdémona, Cabo San Pablo has a short but steep hiking route up to the Faro San Pablo, which rewards travelers with a scenic view of the South Atlantic Ocean and the Isla Grande coastline. North of the lighthouse, Cabo Ladrillero marks the mouth of the Río Ladrillero and has a rocky beach popular with fisherfolk.
