Broughton House

Stately 18th-century Broughton House was once home and studio to Glasgow Boy EA Hornel, whose paintings, along with those of several of his contemporaries, grace the interior. Hornel was a great collector of books, and there's an important collection of Robert Burns works. The gallery room is a sumptuous space with wood paneling and a copy of the Parthenon marbles. Behind the house is an exuberant Japanese-inspired garden bristling with life (also opens during winter season; check website for hours).
