Open since 1996, this brewery housed in a former matzo factory is the big daddy of Brooklyn's contemporary craft-beer boom. Soak up tasty local suds in the taproom, or book a 45-minute tour of its facilities. Tours from Monday to Friday include tastings of three experimental beers, plus history and insight into the brewery; reserve a spot online. Shorter tours on Sunday don't include tastings but come gratis. Note: sandals and high-heeled shoes aren't allowed on tours.
If you only want refreshing brews, skip the tour altogether and just while away a weekend afternoon in the bare-bones tasting room.
Interesting fact: the brewery’s cursive logo was designed by none other than Milton Glaser, of "I Heart New York" fame, who did the job in exchange for a share of the profits and free beer for life.
