Bitchū Kokobun-ji

A highlight on the Kibiji bicycle route, this temple has a picturesque five-storey, 34m pagoda – famed for being the last pagoda to be built in Japan. The oldest buildings here date from the Edo period, but the first temple on this site was built in the 8th century. At the start of spring, the temple and surrounding cherry-blossom trees are romantically lit up at night.
