One of Québec's most beautiful libraries began life as an Anglican church until its later conversion for more secular ends in 1978. Original details of the Neo-Gothic 1848 Église Saint-Matthew survive, including richly hued stained-glass windows, a carved marble pulpit and an apse that functions as a dramatic reading room (cushions available so you can stretch out on the pews while perusing the latest titles).
The adjoining cemetery, which functioned as a Protestant burial ground from 1772 until 1860, is now the Parc St-Matthew.
