Around 2 miles east of Totnes, this ruined Elizabethan mansion stands within the 15th-century defenses of the Pomeroy family castle. Begun by the Seymour family in the 1560s, the mansion was never completed and was abandoned by 1700. It's often called one of the most haunted places in Britain: chilling local legends feature the White Lady – Lady Margaret Pomeroy – who is said to haunt the dungeons where she was imprisoned by her jealous sister.
