If you miss witnessing the aurora borealis, this 45-minute simulation in a purpose-built riverside tepee is the next best thing. Lean back on a reclining chair to watch images gathered over three decades projected on the ceiling while a local guide explains the science and folklore. You'll also hear radio signals as they hit the ionosphere. The centre is 11km south of Sodankylä.
