Anglim/Trimble Gallery

For 30-plus years this has been where Bay Area art movements hit the big time, from Beat assemblage to Bay Area conceptualists. Major gallery artists range from political provocateur Enrique Chagoya to Lynn Hershman's glowing dystopias – yet shows here maintain the element of surprise, from to Veronica DeJesus' palmistry prayer maps to BULL.MILETIC's microscopic images from inside an iPhone.

The gallery is at Minnesota Street Project (www.minnesotastreetproject.com; 1295 Minnesota St), a groundbreaking not-for-profit arts complex. Bay Area arts patrons and ex-techies Deborah and Andy Rappaport funded the conversion of an old factory into low-cost art studios, nonprofit art centers and rent-subsidized showcases for SF talents.
