Ancient Merv Historical Park

Although it requires a vivid imagination to extrapolate from the remaining ruins, 12th- to 13th-century Merv was the largest city in the world with a population of around half a million. Though some guides may rush through photo stops at the monumental remains of the most important buildings, a good storyteller can bring the site’s 4000 years of history to life.
