The region is only accessible for a few months each summer via a notoriously narrow and vertiginous dirt road that starts in the village of Pshaveli outside Telavi, takes you over the 2800m Alazani Pass and eventually to Tusheti's largest village, Omalo, in an epic three-hour journey that is not for the faint-hearted.
