Overview
Trade Kilimanjaro for baobab trees as today commences your wildlife-seeking odyssey. After breakfast this morning, you'll meet your safari guide for a jeep tour into Tarangire National Park, about three hours west of your starting point. You'll head out with a packed lunch, so you don't have to rush to get there; the journey into the park counts as your first game drive, so keep your camera ready. In fact, the animal-packed Tarangire rarely receives the attention it deserves. Thanks to its diverse flora and numerous watering holes, you have just as many big species here as in the Serengeti. As your safari guide leads you into the park's terrain, you never know when the Big Five will make an appearance. Come lunchtime, you'll stop at your guide's favorite spot for a picnic, soaking in the raw terrain of the bush. During your meal — and over the course of today — you may spot large herds of elephants, migratory wildebeests, and zebras, in addition to water buffalo, impalas, antelopes, and more. The unpredictability of wildlife is part of the fun. Later this afternoon, you'll check in to your next accommodation — a glamorous tent property — and enjoy a hearty dinner with a side of shimmering stars and the lullabies of the surrounding bush. Here lies a wonderland where elephants dot the plains like cattle and zebra barks — yes, they bark! — fill the air.
Game Drive
Just the idea of a game drive evokes a wild adventure, and, we promise, reality lives up to the reputation. This morning, you'll climb into an open jeep, helmed by an expert guide and professional wildlife spotter. Your jeep comes fully equipped with high-quality binoculars so you can catch a glimpse of any and all animals from way up close. While animals vary on any given day, the day's route will lead you across the reserve to popular watering holes and seasonal feeding spots. It's "The Lion King" come to life.
