Dolomites at Your Own Pace

Dolomites 2

Overview

After yesterday's immersive mountain excursion, today lets you set the pace, as you'll make your own schedule. Kick off your day with a frothy cappuccino and plate of local salumi at your hotel before taking on the Dolomites in any way that appeals to you. You may choose from a menu of set activities, with the chance to visit the lovely Lake Braies for an al fresco meal. You can alternatively visit the beautiful Fiscalina Valley — the perfect spot for a stroll with all the views. If you prefer biking to hiking, you can also rent a bike or an e-bike to pedal along the routes from Toblach. Of course, you can always choose to hang back at your hotel or explore more locally. After all, you're already stationed in one of the most breathtaking areas, so you can take today to dig into the details of your direct surroundings. Take a walk to the quaint Toblach Lake and enjoy a drink or lunch by the lake banks. Afterward, head to the Baumdorf Village for a glimpse into the area's communal charm. Remember: You're in Italy, so every choice is the right one. (Breakfast)

Highlights

Lake Braies (optional)

Among the day's most scenic options, Lake Braies — a historic and high-altitude lake in Prags — is the perfect spot for a combination of activities. Here, you can walk around the lake's perimeter, stopping by the banks for the best kind of picnic. More experienced hikers may prefer a full-day trek, partaking in an intense, but rewarding, four-hour hike each way to reach the Seekofel peak.

Fiscalina Valley (optional)

A traditional Northern Italian landscape, the Fiscalina Valley reveals yet another gorgeous layer of the Dolomites. Should you choose to visit this valley today, you'll have the chance to stroll, saunter, and soak in the natural environment. The walk through the valley takes just about an hour — the perfect length to gather fresh air and refreshing views.

Self-Guided Bike Ride (optional)

Swap your hiking boots for sneakers with a bike or e-bike rental — a convenient and efficient mode to see a wide range of scenery. If you're interested in biking during your free day, trails abound in Toblach, allowing you to reach a multitude of neighboring destinations. Popular options include the routes to Cortina d'Ampezzo, the quaint village of Lienz in Austria — yes, it's possible to bike from Italy to Austria today! — and countless other locations grounded in nature.
