Giddy Up for the Fort Worth Stockyards

Overview

If there's one day to break out your cowboy boots, it's today. This morning, you'll have a little time to linger in the city's Bishop Arts District. As one of the most charming and eclectic neighborhoods in Dallas, this artsy nook contains a mix of independent boutiques and vintage shops, connecting you with the local community. Around midday, however, it's time for the Stockyards. Head back to your hotel to pick up your rental car for a day trip to neighboring Fort Worth. Just about an hour from Dallas, Fort Worth's Stockyards neighborhood welcomes you to the wild, wild west. In Fort Worth, you'll wander through the historic district, where Ariat and Lucchese stores blend with saloons and Western heritage museums. At 4 p.m., make sure you're in the neighborhood's center, as the world-famous cattle drive occurs every day, twice a day, as a community-wide affair. Afterward, enjoy dinner and drinks at one of the area’s many saloons or restaurants, which range from casual barbecue spots to lively honky-tonks. With live music, rustic architecture, and a distinctly Texan vibe, the Stockyards offers a memorable night out, just in time for the evening's grand finale: the Fort Worth Rodeo, where skilled cowboys and cowgirls compete in time-honored events.

Highlights

Bishop Arts District

The best way to check the pulse on Dallas's creative scene? Explore its signature arts neighborhood, where colorful stores live alongside cafes and galleries on walkable streets. This morning, you'll experience this neighborhood at a relaxed pace and discover unique finds, idiosyncratic nuances, and passionate communities.

Fort Worth Stockyards Cattle Drive

Catapult back in time with Fort Worth's twice-day cattle drive. During this traditional Stockyards experience, cattle drivers herd longhorns down the neighborhood's brick streets in a nod to Fort Worth’s ranching past.

Fort Worth Rodeo

Giddy up for a classic Texas tradition at the Fort Worth Rodeo. The evening's events include all the staples, like bull riding, barrel racing, roping, and bronc riding, and combine high-energy competition with a lively atmosphere of ranching and cowboy culture. Whether you’re a longtime fan or this is, in fact, your first rodeo, the evening promises an entertaining and distinctly Texan night.

Accommodations

The Gaston (or similar)

This luxury bed and breakfast lives within a restored 20th-century home, blending modern touches with the elegance of 1912's designs. Small but mighty, the property consists of just five suites, all distinct but meticulously tailored to reflect the spirit of Dallas. In addition to their individual rooms, guests will likewise have access to The Gaston's speakeasy lounge and outdoor gathering space — a communal combination that oozes with southern hospitality and quintessentially Texan energy.
