The Dhan Mill complex is Delhi’s latest hi-end space to hang out
Mar 4, 2021 • 2 min read
A former granary and warehouse, The Dhan Mill has morphed into Delhi’s latest place for the pretty people to lounge. Located in Chattarpur, better known for large farm houses on the outskirts of Delhi, The Dhan Mill has quickly turned into a swish space with its relaxing vibe and lazy charm. Here artisanal coffee houses, spas and gyms, quirky décor outlets, art galleries, pottery studios, chichi shops, dance halls and the capital city’s famous designer boutiques beckon the beautiful people of Delhi and nearby Gurgaon.
Gliding past the big blue gates are the Mercs and Audis with Delhi and Gurgaon number plates. For behind the gates of The Dhan Mill (www.thedhanmill.com) is a 5-acre plot that has some 20 eclectic outlets. Boutiques, spas, spaces for corporate meets and music events, ateliers and art galleries, décor and artisanal ware and cafes and restaurants are dotted along lanes brightened by bougainvillea creepers.
Art & More
Nature Morte, one of Delhi’s premier art galleries, has moved its main gallery space to The Dhan Mill. The 400-metre gallery will exhibit Indian and international artists. Expect photo exhibitions, installation art, paintings, sculptures and more. The gallery opened during the lockdown in February with the New York-based Kamrooz Aram’s exhibition of collages, paintings, drawings and installations. The Bharat Sikka show exhibits an impressive collection of modern Indian photography.
Studio pottery
For modern stoneware, earthenware, glazed pottery and objects and sculptures, Claymen is the spot at The Dhan Mill. It has potters and sculptures working away at a small studio while the shopfront displays a variety of eclectic objects and stoneware. The quirky ceramic human sculptures have an endearing appeal.
Biting Leather
Step into Nappa Dori for sleek leather bags and accessories and to grab a bite at their inhouse café. The multi-functional space has a studio to see the industrial side of handcrafting their leatherware, DIY and tool kits are exhibited as display objects and a retail outlet draws the shoppers.
Smell the coffee
Lounge at the coffee roasters Quick Brown Fox who serve a variety of coffee and all-day breakfasts, panino, vegan options, pastas and pizzas and desserts. Dog lovers can have a sit down with their pooches and avail of their special pet menu too. The twee shop, Bling-a-licious offers artisanal cakes and confectionery.
Gladrags
Step into the world of Indian designer wear with traditional motifs and sequins and sparkles and the Indian favourite, wedding couture. From Abhinav Mishra, Divyam Mehta’s Indo Western fusion wear and more there is plenty of designer wear magnet for the wedding party fans.
