Getting around
The excellent 28X Airport Flyer (412-442-2000; www.ridegold.com; one way $2.25) public bus makes runs to Oakland and Downtown every 20 minutes. Taxis are readily available and cost about $35 to Downtown. Various shuttles also make downtown runs and cost $13 to $17 per person one way. Car rentals are available from the terminal, and many hotels offer courtesy-van pickup; phones are located by the baggage-claim area.
Driving around Pittsburgh can be extremely frustrating – roads end with no warning, one-way streets can take you in circles and there are various bridges to contend with. However, get a good map and, even better, a co-pilot and you should be OK.
Port Authority Transit (412-442-2000; www.portauthority.org) operates an extensive bus system and a limited light-rail system, the ‘T,’ which is useful for going from Downtown to the South Side. Bus and T fares range from free to $3, depending on the zone in which you’re traveling.
For taxis, call Yellow Cab Co of Pittsburgh (412-321-8100) or Checker Cab (412-664-6600), which charge by zone.
