Getting there & around
Coming from the south, Hwy 198 runs north from Visalia through Three Rivers past Mineral King Rd to the Ash Mountain Entrance. Beyond here the road continues as the Generals Hwy, a narrow and windy road snaking all the way into Kings Canyon National Park where it joins the Kings Canyon Hwy (Hwy 180) near the western Big Stump Entrance. Vehicles over 22ft long may have trouble negotiating the steep road with its many hairpin curves, although they are not prohibited from trying. Budget about one hour to drive from the entrance to the Giant Forest/Lodgepole area and another hour from there to Grant Grove Village in Kings Canyon.
