Getting there & away
Driving to Sausalito from San Francisco, take the Alexander Ave exit (the first exit after the Golden Gate Bridge) and follow the signs into Sausalito. There are five municipal parking lots in town, which are worth using as street parking restrictions are strictly enforced.
Golden Gate Transit (415-923-2000; www.goldengatetransit.org) buses 10 and 50 run daily to Sausalito from San Francisco (one-way $3.25). Catch them at 1st and Mission Sts outside the Transbay Terminal.
The ferry is a fun and easy method for getting to Sausalito. Golden Gate Ferries (415-923-2000; one-way fare $6.45) operates to and from the San Francisco Ferry Building. The ferries operate nine times daily and the trip takes 30 minutes. The Blue & Gold Fleet (415-773-1188; Pier 41, Fisherman’s Wharf; one-way fare $7.50) sails to Sausalito year-round and you can transport bicycles for free.
